People ask, "How was vintage ?" I reply, "Fruitful". Some laugh, and of course, some look confused. Fruitful is a thing. With mild, warm weather during flowering and fruitset, the growing season started ideally and continued so. No extreme extended heat, cool nights, and perfectly timed top-up rains were perfect conditions for the vines ... and they thrived. With happy vines came more berries and slightly bigger bunches. Early varieties ripened a little earlier than usual (gewurztraminer and pinot grigio), then weather moderated further to provide even better consistent, predictable development leading to lovely delicious flavours, optimal ripeness and balanced acids across all varieties. Fruitful = excellent.
